Mindy McCready Defends Her Decision to Defy Court’s Child Custody Orders

Country singer Mindy McCready defended her decision to flee the state of Florida with her 5-year old son Zander in violation of a court’s child custody orders and says that she is standing up for her child.

McCready is attempting to regain legal custody of Zander from her mother Gayle Inge, who has taken care of him for the last 4 years. McCready claims that Inge has physically abused her son and exposed him to extreme religious groups.

McCready violated child custody orders last week by taking Zander from his father’s home without permission. McCready and Zander were later found at her boyfriend’s home in Arkansas by U.S. marshals. Zander was removed and taken to a foster care facility.

McCready has a history of prescription drug abuse and was featured on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” in 2010. She recently announced that she is five months pregnant with twins.

McCready will return to court for a custody hearing next week.
