The couple that crashed a White House state dinner in 2009 has finalized their divorce.
Tareq Salahi filed for divorce from his wife Michaele in September 2011 after she left him for Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Tareq subsequently dropped his divorce suit, but Michaele filed a divorce petition of her own in December.
The couple’s divorce became increasingly bitter and contentious as Tareq filed a $50 million personal injury lawsuit against Schon and Journey, alleging that Schon publicly humiliated him and cost him several business opportunities. Tareq also claimed that Schon emailed him a photo of his penis and called him to say, “I’m f**king your wife.”
Michaele retaliated and filed an $850,000 defamation suit against Tareq, accusing him of calling her a “groupie slut” during a television interview.
All that came to end and the Salahis were able to settle their divorce, which was finalized on Monday. The parties also settled their lawsuits out of court.
Michaele told E! News, “After all these years, finally where I always wanted to be, with Neal Schon.”
Schon said in a statement, “I was never concerned about the $50 million lawsuit as I knew it was always about their divorce. It’s over. I win, she’s with me.”
As for Tareq, he says that he plans to run for governor in Virginia next year. Schon said that he “wish[es] Tareq the best with his candidacy.”
